First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, speaking at the twenty-second International Conference on Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome and Sexually Transmitted Infections in Africa Pre-Conference in Zimbabwe, emphasized that while progress has been made in fighting Human Immunodeficiency Virus and Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome, significant challenges remain, including Nigeria’s large population, insecurity, and stigmatization. She reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to eliminating Human Immunodeficiency Virus, Syphilis, and Hepatitis by 2030 through the Renewed Hope Initiative. Other African First Ladies, including those of Botswana and Mozambique, also shared their national efforts, while Joint United Nations Programme on Human Immunodeficiency Virus and Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome Executive Director Winnie Byanyima urged the First Ladies to leverage science and technology, describing the fight as a winnable war centered on addressing inequalities and accelerating inclusion and innovation.
