Speaking at a forum organized by the Capital Market Correspondents Association of Nigeria, economic expert Doctor Afolabi Olowookere advised the federal government to focus on boosting domestic production, revising trade and industrial policies, and adopting innovative borrowing strategies to sustainably manage inflation rather than relying solely on continuous interest rate hikes by the Central Bank. He noted that factors such as global conflicts, foreign exchange disparities, and high debt-to-revenue ratios have driven up inflation and widening government deficits, while also warning that the stock market might experience negative returns during the election year due to economic uncertainties and low capital inflows.
