The Peoples Democratic Party State Working Committee in Abia State has expelled former Senate President Adolphus Wabara from the party, following an investigation into his suspension for alleged anti-party activities. The decision was made during an emergency meeting after receiving the Disciplinary Committee's report. The committee cited Wabara's endorsement of Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, for a second term in office as an act of disloyalty to the party. Wabara had not issued any statement regarding his expulsion, but the Abia chapter insisted on his expulsion.The party asked the National Working Committee and the National Executive Committee to act swiftly by appointing an acting chairman for the Peoples Democratic Party  Board of Trustees. The Abia State Executive Committee recommended the immediate appointment of an Acting Board of Trustees Chairman by the National Working Committee and the National Executive Committee. The crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party has escalated, with former Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom, Senator Anyanwu, and others failing to attend the National Disciplinary Committee led by former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tom Ikimi. The committee held its session in Abuja on February 6, and the identities of the other 10 invitees remain undisclosed.Since the 2023 presidential election, the Peoples Democratic Party has been embroiled in internal conflicts, with members accusing others of undermining the party's interests and calling for disciplinary measures. The Peoples Democratic Party National Working Committee established a disciplinary committee on August 21 to allow members to file complaints, hear both sides, and make recommendations to the National Executive Committee.

The pioneer leader of the Abia State Caucus of the ruling party has urged Governor Alex Otti to defect from the Labour Party to secure his re-election in upcoming polls, echoing a similar public call made by the Senate President. Supporters of the move argue that the governor will face significant political hurdles if he attempts to run again on his current platform. However, the state and national leadership of the Labour Party have firmly dismissed the pressure, asserting that Governor Otti remains fully committed to the party and its developmental ideology. They defended their platform by contrasting its achievements in infrastructure and human empowerment with the governance records of opposition-led states, insisting that the governor has no intentions of leaving the party.

The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkiruka Onyejeocha, has strongly dismissed allegations of anti-party activities brought against her by an All Progressives Congress chieftain in Abia State, Chief William Nwanguma. The petition, submitted to the national leadership of the party, accused the minister of endorsing the re-election of Abia State Governor Alex Otti, who belongs to the Labour Party, during a road project flag-off event. In response, Onyejeocha defended her actions by explaining that governance transcends party politics and that her remarks were taken completely out of context. She questioned the petitioner's motives, noting that he is not even from the local government area where the event took place, stating that she had actually called on the governor to support the president's re-election bid in the upcoming general elections. Meanwhile, the state party chairman stated that the local chapter was unaware of the formal petition, Stressing the internal disagreements regarding how party members handle governance and cross-party engagements.
