The National Librarian/Chief Executive Officer of the National Library of Nigeria, Professor Chinwe Veronica Anunobi, has been elected to the Governing Board of the International Standard Serial Number (ISSN) International Centre, marking another significant milestone in her distinguished professional career and a proud moment for Nigeria's library and information sector.
The announcement was conveyed by the Director of the ISSN International Centre, Ms. Gaëlle Béquet, in an official email communication.
According to Ms. Béquet, Professor Anunobi's election was based on her wealth of experience, professional expertise, and unwavering commitment to the advancement of library and information services at both national and international levels.
According to Ms. Béquet, “Prof. Anunobi’s experience, expertise, and commitment will undoubtedly be valuable contributions to the Board's work, and I look forward to seeing the impact of her involvement in the years ahead. I am looking forward to working with her and to benefiting from her insights and perspectives.”
The appointment is widely regarded as a testament to Professor Anunobi’s outstanding contributions to librarianship and information management, as well as her growing influence within the global library community.
Prior to this latest appointment, Professor Anunobi had already recorded significant milestones on the international stage. In September 2025, she was elected as the First Vice Chair of the Executive Committee of the Conference of Directors of National Libraries (CDNL), becoming the first woman in Africa and the first representative from West Africa to attain this position. Subsequently, in May 2026, she was appointed Co-Chair of the Global Task Force on Indigenous Languages, further affirming her growing influence and leadership in the global library and information community.
The ISSN International Centre coordinates the worldwide identification system for serial publications and continuing resources, working closely with national centres across the globe to facilitate access to scholarly and informational resources.
