The National Library of Nigeria, led by the National Librarian/CEO, Professor Chinwe Veronica Anunobi, alongside the Management Team, on Monday, 16th February 2026, received a delegation from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) at the National Library Boardroom.
The delegation, drawn from JAMB’s Archives, Records and Library Services Division in the Quality Assurance Department, visited the National Library to understudy its exemplary practices and modern procedures in records management, library services, and administrative processes.
The Head of the JAMB delegation, Mrs. Hauwa Idi Jimeta, stated that the visit was aimed at gaining insights into the National Library’s records management systems, library operations, quality control processes, research policy, cataloguing and classification process and overall administrative best practices. She informed that the knowledge acquired would enhance the operational standards and service delivery of JAMB’s library and archival systems under the Quality Assurance Department.
In her welcome address, Professor Anunobi emphasized the critical role of libraries in preserving a nation’s history and intellectual heritage. She described the National Library as the country’s heritage institution, responsible for the preservation of the nation’s intellectual output and the monitoring of bibliographic activities nationwide.
The National Librarian underscored the importance of establishing functional repositories, advise the need for proper records management, digitization of aging materials, and the establishment of automation centres to enhance efficiency. According to her, efficient organizing of materials enables easy retrieval.
Professor Anunobi also cautioned on the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence, warning that information shared on social media platforms is often collated by AI systems to the benefit of users. She concluded by assuring the delegation of the National Library’s commitment to providing maximum support within its available resources.
After a virtual tour of the National Library of Nigeria via its website, The National Librarian, thereafter directed the delegation to the Directors of Collection, Development and Technical Services (CDTS), Planning Research and Statistics Department (PRSD), and Legal Deposit Departments for in-depth sessions on the services and statutory functions of the National Library.
Directors present at the meeting included: Mrs. Ngozi Odogwu (Director, PRSD), Mr. Hambagda Abubakar (Director, CD&TS), Mr. Bashir Salawu (Director, VLSD), Mrs. Kikelomo Abdulazeez (Director, Legal Deposit), Mr. Kehinde Ojo (Director, PSD), Mrs. Idogeist Akpabio (Director, IS&PD), and Mr. Shuaibu Abdulrahman (Director, Human Resources and Administration).
Members of the JAMB delegation in attendance were Mrs. Hauwa Idi Jimeta, Mr. Ismaila Kareem, Mr. Olushola Olaosebekan, Mr. Kelechi, and Mrs. Aisha Muhammad.
The visit further strengthened institutional collaboration between the National Library of Nigeria and JAMB in promoting excellence in records management, library services, and information dissemination.
