Prof. Chinwe Veronica Anunobi has been elected as the 1st Vice Chair of the Conference of Directors of National Libraries (CDNL). The election was held during the Conference of Directors of National Libraries’ meeting held virtually on 5th June, 2025.
Prof. Anunobi who is the National Librarian of Nigeria took over from Lesile Weir, the Director, National Library of Canada who was elected as the IFLA President.
Dr. Tomasz Mokowski, the former 2nd Vice Chair was elected as the Chair of the CDNL, while Mr. Taner Beyoglu, Director-General for Libraries and Publications of the National Library of Turkiye was elected as the 2nd Vice Chair.
The formal handover of the positions will be conducted in August during the CDNL Annual Meeting holding in Astana, Kazakhstan. CDNL officers are usually elected every two years during the IFLA/CDNL conference.
The Conference of Directors of National Libraries – CDNL is an umbrella and important assemblage of National Librarians across the world. CDNL members meet annually to discuss issues pertaining to National Libraries development and advice colleagues on current approach towards effective functions and operations. It is a forum for the Chief Executives of National Libraries to provide update on the progress, challenges and prospects of their various libraries and channel a way forward to promoting librarianship.
The National Librarian/CEO will hold office as 1st Vice Chair for two years.
