Professionals in the Library and Information Sector have been charged to embrace contemporary global trends in library operations and services delivery in order to optimally serve their patrons.
The National Librarian and Chief Executive Officer of the apex library, Prof. Chinwe Anunobi made the charge during the opening ceremony of a five-day Capacity Building Workshop, organized by the National Library of Nigeria in Enugu.
According to the National Librarian, the realities of our time require an innovative, consistent and dynamic approach to our operations and service delivery if we must improve on our relevance and to meet the rapidly changing needs of our clientele.
She reiterated that Librarians are not just custodians of information, but also facilitators of knowledge and our work has the power to transform lives and communities.
The workshop which held at the Centre for Advanced Library and Information Management, CALIM, centers on the theme: Concepts, Technologies and Strategies for Optimal Library Management.
The workshop covered six modules, and professionals engaged syndicate discussions, as well as question and answer sessions in order to ensure full knowledge assimilation.
Some of the papers discussed include: Overview of New Trends in Library Operations and Services, Use of Interactive Media in Library Services, Research Data Management in Library and Information Services, Automated Newspaper Indexing/Abstracting Basic and others.
Meanwhile, one of the participants, Lt. Col. Bello Ahmadu while appreciating the National Librarian for organizing such a unique workshop said they had learnt a lot. He assured assured that they will all replicate what they had learnt in their various organisations. He said they are looking forward for yet another programme of that kind.
